Thanksgiving Pinecone Placecard Holders :: Get Your Glitter On!

Sometimes a girl just has to glitter!  I am always drawn to anything sparkly and this easy craft is one way to sparkle up the holiday table.  1.  Gather pinecones or do what I did - buy a small container at Walmart. 2.  Get some decoupage glue, too. 3.  Find some glitter you love ~ any color will work for Thanksgiving. 4.  Place it all on a tray to catch spills. 5.  Paint the pinecone with glue. 6. Liberally douse with glitter. 7.  Set aside to dry. 8.  When dry, top with a place card. 9.  Set the table, light the candles and enjoy the glimmery glow! Hosting Thanksgiving on Paper :: Two Weeks Out

I have hosted Thanksgiving several times over the past fifteen years of marriage.  It can be a very stressful undertaking to be sure.  In fact, one year, while excessively pregnant with my third and obligated to host for a few families in our neighborhood, I quite seriously suggested we have the meal catered.  I was simply too tired, too overwhelmed to clean, decorate, shop, cook, bake, host and clean up afterward.  This suggestion so appalled one of my home-cooking neighbors it essentially ended our friendship .   We wound up cancelling the whole evening and my husband and two sons and I had a peaceful dinner around our own table - stress free.  It was just what I needed that year.   Don't get me wrong ~ I love hosting the most food-centric holiday of the year.  In fact, this year we will be feeding twenty people and I cannot wait .  But I have realized that the only way to have a panic-free turkey day in the kitchen is to p...

Pretty, Happy, Funny, Real {fun fall moments}

~PRETTY~ Need I explain?  Who doesn't fall in love with the jewel tones of this season? ~HAPPY~ Daddy being able to stop by for KC's school Halloween party made a small someone supremely happy! ~FUNNY~ Our three boys and our neighbor's boys coordinated their costumes without any of the adults realizing the plan.  Mario, Luigi, Waluigi and two Toads made quite a splash in the neighborhood while Trick or Treating.  All the Super Mario fans gave them kudos. ~REAL~ The irony of this moment on the deck made me laugh and I had to take a photo.  Pardon the unpainted toes - they're red now!  Thanks, Mom, for sending me the cookbook.  I love it!  Putting your feet up on a sunny afternoon on the deck while reading a gorgeous cookbook = heaven!  I highly recommend you try it yourself.   Gratefully sharing here  every Thursday

Christmas Book Countdown {Christmas Ideas}

Over the past nine years of Christmases we have accumulated many lovely Christmas storybooks for our boys.  From board books to several versions of 'Twas the Night Before Christmas we have more than 25 various titles.  Somewhere along the line I learned of the idea to wrap each book and place them under the tree.   Beginning December 1st, one book is chosen and unwrapped and becomes the bedtime story for that night. The first two years I tried this I had a terrible time trying to get them all wrapped before December 1st.   Just locating them and gathering them together was one year's accomplishment.  Finally, last year it dawned on me to wrap them all before I returned them  to the attic with the rest of the Christmas decorations.  As I wrapped them I also numbered them from favorites first to 'Twas the Night Before Christmas last.  This year they are already under the tree.  It makes the tree look finished and works sort of like a...
