Friends Like Family {Creative Everyday}

Saturday evening we had a Pioneer Woman Cooks party.  My good friend suggested we actually cook something from the PW cookbooks we both have and bring our families together to enjoy the meal.  I chose a  meatloaf recipe as the main dish and my friend brought P-Dub's Twice Baked Potatoes as the side.  The meatloaf is my new go-to recipe (although I did change it up a bit by adding minced shallots and garlic and pre-cooking the bacon so it would get crispy on top).   The whole meal was delicious and memorable but my favorite part of the evening came when we spontaneously brought out some art supplies and my naturally artistic friend gave an impromptu drawing lesson to RW.  It was one of those heart-warming moments when you realize that your friend loves your children like family .  This counts for a lot when we both live hundreds of mile from our nearest family members.   Friends that become fa...

Goodbyes {5 Minute Friday}

Good-Bye  ::  Freewrite for five minutes ~ no editing, no re-writing ~ just write . God-be-with-ye is what it really means but byes are not often very good.  I think of all the bad-byes I have had in my 39 years.  The earliest was one I knew not that I was saying, my father lying unconscious on the bathroom floor, my two year old self unaware he had said good-bye forever.  I remember tearfully good-bying my fiancé in the valley of the highway, he heading back south, me straight north, my sobs the only music for many miles.   Adios to my Grandma who passed while I was an ocean away,  Auf wiedersehen dear Grandpa after months of bone-eating cancer, Cheerio dainty Grandma Dorothy leaving us at Christmastide just a few years ago.   No, most good-byes are not that good but when I remember to remember God-be-with-ye there is hope, there is peace, there is a future hello.

Woods, Waterfalls and Wendy's on our Easter Vacation {PHFR}

~PRETTY~ Have you heard of the nature deficit that many people are experiencing in the world today?  How it has become rarer and rarer that children (let alone adults) are spending any time just being outside among the trees and the breeze?   Well, I can attest to the rejuvenating effects of getting away from all things electronic and losing oneself amid God's most beautiful creations.   Over the weekend we spent one day ~ 12 hours in total ~ driving the Blue Ridge Parkway , stopping to hike whenever the spirit moved us.  Not only did we see amazing waterfalls, wildflowers and butterflies, but we bonded anew as a family.  I can't remember how many times I inhaled a deep breath of fresh mountain air and exhaled all my pent up stress while thinking to myself ~ "This is where my Spirit is most at peace ".   You don't have to get to the mountains to have the same experience.  Just go out into the yard today, slow yourself d...

Triduum Meditation {from the archives}

This is my post from last year on this day.  I will be posting more tomorrow and Saturday and then will take a few days off to enjoy the Easter vacation we have planned.  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ In honor of these three sacred days ~  the Triduum  ~ I will not be posting anything new.  Instead, I wanted to share a few photos for silent meditation on the historical events being commemorated.  Again I owe all the photos to my sister who visited Jerusalem and took these images at  The Church of the Holy Sepulchre .   Christ is crucified.  Known as the Latin Calvary. Christ is taken off the cross. Christ is anointed and prepared for burial. Christ is placed in the tomb. Venerated location of Christ's crucifixion.  People kneel inside the altar to touch the stone below. The rock believed to be the site of the crucifixion.
