French Press Coffee Break :: Day 12 {31 Days of My Favorite Links}

How did I make it to my age without having had French Press coffee?  When Hurricane Irene threatened, friends advised me to get a press in the event that we had no power, we could boil water on the grill and still have our morning coffee.  I went straight to Target and purchased the Bodum press for less than $20.00.   Since then I have found the unique intensity of this type of coffee makes a wonderful mid-day break.  Here's a simple guide to making a delicious cup of coffee right in your own home.
(This could also be used to make loose-leaf tea if you'd prefer.)

Fill carafe with four scoops of your favorite good quality coffee grounds  and two cups of nearly boiling water.
Stir with a wooden spoon.
Allow coffee to steep for three to four minutes.
Slowly press down on the plunger.
 The grounds will be trapped underneath the mesh strainer.
Take a moment to savor the crema on top of the rich, dark coffee.
Mmmmm.
Pour into your favorite coffee cup.
Inhale the fragrance of strong, black coffee.
Sugar?
Yes, please.
Cream?
Well, if you insist.
This coffee must be enjoyed while sitting down.
Preferably in a comfy chair near
a sunny window nook.

Better yet,
with a book on your lap and
rain lashing at the windows.
I hope you have the chance to
treat yourself to a coffee break sometime soon.

You deserve it!

  2. Oh my! I love my coffee press... just out of coffee this morning, oh the horror! But I have something decadent for you to try! :D

    As your coffee is brewing heat a little over half a cup of half&half till very warm but not boiling, don't want to curdle it. After pouring your coffee, clean out the press really well and pour the hot milk into the press. Pump the "plunger" up and down rather quickly for a bit to "froth" the milk. Pour desired milk into your coffee holding back the foam with a spoon, then spoon desired amount of foam into cup (for me, that would be all of it!) YUM! Enjoy!

  3. I have a small 12 oz. bodum press I've been using for years. I'm the only coffee drinker in the house, so it's perfect. Even then, I don't drink it every day and can't handle caffeine. What type of coffee is your favorite? I can never seem to make that perfect cup. Cream definitely makes a huge difference for me.

  4. My french press and I are inseparable. It is like it was made for me, and me for it. So, I was happy to stumble upon your post and find a kindred spirit. =)

  5. CA ~ I love the frothing idea. Would never have thought to try it!

    Elisa ~ I made this pot with Starbuck's coffee. I always mix a bag of decaf with a bag of regular so that I can have more coffee! This blend was a bag of Thanksgiving blend and a bag of Decaf House Blend. ( My all time favorite would have to be Pike's Place but they don't offer that in decaf.)

  6. Yumminess....this is what we use for camping, too. During the holiday season, we put in cloves, cinnamon, and some orange peel in with the coffee grounds for a little extra spice. (In looking around my house, I realized that we have 5 different types of coffee makers. How about you?!)

  7. That sounds delicious, Missy. I might try that, as much as I don't like Starbucks b/c it's like the most popular coffee place in the world...their coffee is soooo good. I saw at the grocery store that they now make ICE CREAM in the coffee flavors...genius!

Locally Grown {stuffed green peppers recipe}

  Last weekend we took the whole family to a nearby produce stand.  We were craving something that tasted fresh from the garden and since I don't have my own garden, we found this place.     The fields were full of fall-colored flowered.  Can't wait for those cooler days to come.         But for now, we are reveling in the height of summer sunshine and produce.       It's easy to go overboard here and buy much more than you can use in the next few days.  I don't even like okra but they look so inviting in those cute blue crates.     These tomatoes inspired a caprese salad for lunch: tomato slices cut into quarters, hunks of fresh mozzarella, snipped basil leaves, salt, pepper and drizzles of olive oil and red wine vinegar.       These strawberries wound up being dunked in Silky Chocolate Fondue .       Every girl dreams of doing her shopping with one of these adorable woven baskets, doesn't she?       Even the boys had fun playing in the sand while I took m

Savoring Summer {Staying in the Season}

The desk full of binders, calendars, sports schedules and dreamy ideas is where I currently find myself, while my mind continues to stray back to the mountains and clouds of our trip to the Black Hills of South Dakota. We have been home for a week and I decided in future, I must come home better mentally prepared for the onslaught of emails and to-do items that pile up when we go away for two whole weeks. The fact that school resumes one week from today only intensifies the pressure to get it all done right away. Usually at this point in August I am eager for cooler, less humid days hinting at the beauty of spicy Autumn flavors. Not this year. I am so invigorated by my return to normal movement following the long recovery from knee surgery that I don't want these summery days to end. At least not until they officially end on September 23, 2014. This year feels like a do-over, the last one so consumed by injury, pain and slow, slow, slow recovery. My mind is bursti

Petals :: 52 Photos Project

Where I live the Bradford Pears have bloomed and blown and the Cherry Blossoms are in full blossom.  Even though that means our allergy season is now officially underway, I cannot help opening our windows every morning in hopes of hearing the birds singing to greet the day.  Springtime has conveniently coincided with my personal recovery process from knee surgery.  As I am slowly re-gaining mobility on crutches it seems an added encouragement that the weather is also improving and the trees are welcoming my return with their flowers. What a treat it would be to be able to put down my crutches in time for Easter Sunday and walk again on my own! (I am doubtful but one can hope.) Sharing with 52 Photos Project :: Petals
