Summer Opportunities List {Mom's Day Out}

When was the last time you slipped away from home
sans diaper bag,
no Cheerios in your purse,
with nowhere in particular to go?

At this half-way point in summer vacation,
might I suggest you arrange to do so?

Go to the farmer's market.
Stop to admire the rainbow of summertime abundance.
Marvel at the variety of colors, shapes and sizes.
Touch, sniff, taste.
Praise Him.

Wander into a place of worship.
Let the silence seep inside until you can hear the spirit speaking to you.
Softly. Lovingly.  To you.
Listen.
To Him.

Take yourself out to lunch.
Observe people.
Eavesdrop.
Read.
Savor Him

Don't forget dessert!

Stop at a local bookstore.
Jot down titles to find at the Library
Peruse.  Skim.  Read.
 Write in your journal.
Make a list.
Doodle.
Count your blessings.
Bless Him.

Savor a cup of cappuccino.
Realize you are missing the crew back home.
Choose a date to meet yourself again soon.
Return refreshed.
You have been missed, too.

  3. The first pic is my absolute favorite. I wish I could find a place like that. My mother's sabbath is upcoming...it's been way too long.

  4. Oh wow, I really need to do this. It has been a long time since I went out without errands to run or something that I had to do. Thanks for linking up to NOBH.

  5. Misty, your moms day out looks like a wonderful break for you! Your pictures are just gorgeous! It's been awhile since I slipped away and spent a day by myself.

I thought I was the only one who wandered the bookstores and wrote down the titles of books I want to find in my local library to read so I don't have to buy them :)

Petals :: 52 Photos Project

Where I live the Bradford Pears have bloomed and blown and the Cherry Blossoms are in full blossom.  Even though that means our allergy season is now officially underway, I cannot help opening our windows every morning in hopes of hearing the birds singing to greet the day.  Springtime has conveniently coincided with my personal recovery process from knee surgery.  As I am slowly re-gaining mobility on crutches it seems an added encouragement that the weather is also improving and the trees are welcoming my return with their flowers. What a treat it would be to be able to put down my crutches in time for Easter Sunday and walk again on my own! (I am doubtful but one can hope.) Sharing with 52 Photos Project :: Petals

Peaceful Snow Day

Yesterday we had the most lovely snow day. The woods were simply begging us to come and explore. We had new trails to find and secret passageways and hideouts. Reading about nature is fine, but if a person walks in the woods and listens carefully, he can learn more than what is in books, for they speak with the voice of God. George Washington Carver There were tracks to follow. And tracks to make. Occasionally, the wind blew mini blizzards of snow around us. And then the sun returned and the sky gleamed blue. The sky is the daily bread of the eyes. Ralph Waldo Emerson There were hints of Spring. And reminders of winter. We made wonderful memories. And then, there were the snowy camellias. I got a little swept away by their color and beauty. I thank you God for this most amazing day, for the leaping greenly spirits of trees, and for the blue dream of sky and for everything which is natural, which is infinite, which is yes. e.e. cummings ...
