End of Summer Daybook

A photo thought...

Outside my window...

It is like living inside a chimney.  There is a nearby wildfire and the smoke has been getting thicker all morning.  Even inside the house it smells like my kids are roasting marshmallows in the next room.  Today will be indoors all day so I am sure I will get caught up on Transformers Prime and Spider man cartoons.  :)

I am wearing...
Cut-off jean shorts and an $8.00 "boyfriend" tee-shirt from Target. I love it because it is fitted and long without being clingy.

I am thinking...
Of moving all my recipes from Bake Me Away to this blog.  I don't post that many recipes so one every week or two in this space seems easier to manage.
Any thoughts?

I am hearing...
The pop-up player on this blog - specifically this song:
Give Me Jesus by Fernando Ortega.

I am thankful for...
The most wonderful, slowed down summer we have ever had.  I am so convinced that less "busyness" is so much more for our family.

Around the house...
School supplies are taking over our dining room table.  I actually created a spreadsheet to figure out all the items I needed to buy for three separate children.

I am praying for...
Claudia.  She is in dire need of all our prayers.  Please lift her up for healing.
The grieving families of the SEALs we have lost.  So many young  widows and children whose fathers will never come home.

I am reading...
Honestly, not much.  Mostly going through cookbooks and my pulled from magazines recipe file to put together the next month's menu plan.

One of my favorites is a new cookbook I am so excited to start using particularly for the soup recipes.  It is nearly crock pot season!

I am creating...
New schedules for back to school.  Adapting this schedule to upcoming soccer practices and school days.

Fall monthly menus.  I have gathered 20 new soup recipes I will be making for Sunday Soup Nights.

God is leading me...
In how to embrace new technologies with my family in a Christian way.

In the kitchen...
Monday :  Leftover grilled pork tenderloin and homemade refried beans
Tuesday:   Baked Rigatoni and steamed green beans
Wednesday: Leftovers
Thursday: Grilled chicken fajitas with caramelized onions
Friday:  Chicken fajita salads
Saturday:  Pizza night - hopefully from scratch
Sunday: Soup of some kind.

In the garden...
Wilting impatiens, crisping hydrangea leaves, yellowing chives but my petunias are thriving.  Gotta love those hardy bloomers!

One of my favorite things...
Apple season!  My son has begged me for days to make an apple pie so I made two yesterday.  They. are. completely. gone.  (I only had one piece!)  It fills me with a special pleasure to please my hungry boys' tummies so well.

  1. I love the idea of posting your recipes here, Misty. I've used a couple of them and just printed the apple pie one to make this afternoon. Great idea!!

Peaceful Snow Day

Yesterday we had the most lovely snow day. The woods were simply begging us to come and explore. We had new trails to find and secret passageways and hideouts. Reading about nature is fine, but if a person walks in the woods and listens carefully, he can learn more than what is in books, for they speak with the voice of God. George Washington Carver There were tracks to follow. And tracks to make. Occasionally, the wind blew mini blizzards of snow around us. And then the sun returned and the sky gleamed blue. The sky is the daily bread of the eyes. Ralph Waldo Emerson There were hints of Spring. And reminders of winter. We made wonderful memories. And then, there were the snowy camellias. I got a little swept away by their color and beauty. I thank you God for this most amazing day, for the leaping greenly spirits of trees, and for the blue dream of sky and for everything which is natural, which is infinite, which is yes. e.e. cummings ...

Saturday Surfing {favorite spots from around the web}

Saturdays are the perfect time for a little aimless web-wandering and here are few of my recent reads I'd like to recommend to you. The Wild Surrender of Motherhood by Carrie Ann Moss @Annapurna Living This new website launched this week and is absolutely lovely. Remember Carrie Ann Moss from the Matrix movies? Well she is now the founder and inspiration behind this blog.  Here is an excerpt of her vision for annapurnaliving.com : FROM CARRIE-ANNE ... “To see womanhood through eyes of grace.”  My desire is to live in a world where nourishment is valued. I believe a nourished family will lead to a nourished world. Petals :: 52 Photos Project

Where I live the Bradford Pears have bloomed and blown and the Cherry Blossoms are in full blossom.  Even though that means our allergy season is now officially underway, I cannot help opening our windows every morning in hopes of hearing the birds singing to greet the day.  Springtime has conveniently coincided with my personal recovery process from knee surgery.  As I am slowly re-gaining mobility on crutches it seems an added encouragement that the weather is also improving and the trees are welcoming my return with their flowers. What a treat it would be to be able to put down my crutches in time for Easter Sunday and walk again on my own! (I am doubtful but one can hope.) Sharing with 52 Photos Project :: Petals
