Every Day {5 minute friday}

Joining with The Gypsy Mama for a five minute un-edited free write about the topic of her choice:

Every day...

Every day I am awakened by the sounds of brothers' bare feet slapping on wood floors downstairs,  their laughter floating up the stairway through the small opening in the doorway of my bedroom.

I turn slowly out of bed, careful not to disturb my toddler or my husband who lie close together in a tangle of bedding.

Now it is my turn to pad barefoot down the stairs, press the start button on the coffee pot, prepared the night before with tired anticipation of these early morning moments.

Then I slip into my quiet morning spot at my computer.  First, light the candle.  Second, check my e-mail.  Third, pour my now-ready cup of coffee and settle in to read the words of my favorite inspirational bloggers:

In the Heart of My Home by Elizabeth Foss,
A Holy Experience by Ann Voskamp,
The Gift of an Ordinary Day by Katrina Kenison.

This has become my every day ritual.  Reading about the everydayness of other women's lives helps me to see the hand of God moving through my own ordinary, extraordinary every day.

  1. we must have posted about the same time. so funny. my picture is coffee too! and my morning sounds a lot like yours! so happy to have stumbled upon an obviously kindred spirit!

    happy friday friend.

  2. It's funny to find that lots of us do the same things in the morning. :-) Blessings to you and your family.

  3. I will think of you each morning, too, as you are on MY list of places to check before the sun rises:)
I hope today- and every day- is a good one!
Thanks for the follow . .

  4. Such sweet writing, I love it only took 5 minutes and I love that coffee is a vital part of your day as well!

  5. Your 5-minute Fridays are my favorite. I love to read what spills out into the computer for a full 5 minutes! Making coffee at night to be ready for morning seems like such a chore, doesn't it? And yet, it's so welcome in the morning that you'd think that wonderful feeling would always make doing it at night easier. Snuggle time, morning time, rituals, starting the day off right...I am truly envious right now, at this stage of our transition...I would love to have some of that back! It'll come, I know! H2U!

  6. Except for the small footsteps...we have incredibly similiar mornings! Thank you for making my morning something I do not do alone.

  7. I'm not a coffee-drinker, but your ritual sounds lovely! Stopping by from 5 Minute Friday! :)

  8. Sounds like a lovely way to start the day! Aaaah, the comfort of coffee, a candle and a computer-what could be better? :) It really is those little things that make the everyday so wonderful, isn't it? Glad to be here today!

  9. Jenn - don't worry you'll be settled in soon and snuggle time can resume! H2U!
